The Labour Heritage Register of New South Wales

TERRY IRVING & LUCY TAKSA
The Register is a historical guide to collections and sites of labour heritage in Sydney, its suburbs, and regional New South Wales. It aims to elicit an active engagement with heritage as a living, historically-based aspect of public life.
Its unique feature is a list of sites that may be used to reveal the history of a labour precinct. It has been constructed through systematic research of documentary sources (newspapers, commercial directories, etc) between 1890 and 1980.
An introductory essay discusses the labour precinct as a patterned and historically changing set of sites where labour organizing and education for citizenship occurs, and defines the relationship between labour heritage and labour history.
